THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The Beach is a short 150-foot walk. There you can walk along the beach towards the town of Melaque one way and the beautiful town of Barra de Navidad the other. Plus there are so many ways to enjoy the beach; watch or join the locals participating in skim boarding, in the late afternoon the locals gather and fish with large circular nets they throw out into the water. Or just stay on the terrace with the refreshment of your choice and watch the sun go down – it’s habit forming. If you’re looking for a real Mexican town with real people – this is it! No beach vendors no time-share salesman, only locals that might try to sell you homemade queso fresco. Buy it! It has been a joy to experience the local cuisine and culture. Every now and then a parade comes down the street right in front of the house – usually local children and the local band. The neighborhood is mostly residential with occasional restaurants and grocery stores – very convenient.
In Barra de Navidad (5 minutes away by car) you can rent fishing boats to take you out for a full day of deep sea fishing or stay in the bay for a more relaxed afternoon. Barra also has the #1 Mexican Resort “The Grand Bay” where you can dine and enjoy international cuisine. In addition there are tours to outlying towns and eco-tours to sea turtle conservation that are available at certain times of the year. Most people walk but transportation is easy – there are local taxes and buses that will take you just about anywhere. It is a short 30 minute taxi ride from the Manzanillo airport and they will bring you straight to the house. Car rentals are also available at the airport and it’s an easy drive up.
